I chose to host my Web site with Tripod.  Do keep in mind that when you sign up for Tripod free site hosting, you get 11 Mb of hard disk space, must agree to update your homepage at least once a month, and when users visit your site they will see advertising.  These conditions were perfectly acceptable to me because I didn't want to pay for hosting, 11 Mb is plenty of hard disk space, I plan to keep my site current as our puppy grows, and the advertising isn't bothersome because I'm glad they make it possible for me to get free hosting services.  Also, I was fine with the fact that I would not have my own domain (such as http://www.jakethepuppy.com), and would instead have a longer site address such as https://members.tripod.com/jakethepuppy.  Tripod does offer hosting plans without advertising, with more hard disk space, and with your own domain name, but they are for-fee services which I don't need for my puppy's Web site.

So, here's how I signed up for free hosting services on Tripod.

  1. Go to http://www.tripod.com, and click the sign-up button (in the upper right corner).
  2. Fill out the questionnaire, specifying what login name and password you would like to use.  I used the same login name and password I used when I signed up for e-mail, just so I would have fewer things to have to remember.
  3. Once I was finished I was greeted with a confirmation page that showed that it was official that my https://members.tripod.com/~jakethepuppy site was ready to go.

Next, in order to be able to create my Web pages while I was connected to the Tripod servers, I needed to FrontPage-enable my new site.
